About the Project
Junat Kartalla ("Trains on the Map") is an independent project designed to make train travel easier, faster, and more reliable across multiple countries.
What started as a personal passion project has grown into one of Finland's most popular tools for tracking live train locations. My goal is to provide commuters and travelers with a clean, fast, and accessible interface to view real-time schedules and train movements everywhere.
The Developer
I am a software developer based in Finland. I built this platform because I believe public transport data should be easy to use for everyone. I actively maintain the web and mobile apps to ensure stability and accuracy for thousands of daily users.

Data Sources
This service utilizes open data provided by:
- Data from TransLink (Queensland Government) GTFS and GTFS-RT (CC BY 4.0). Covers South East Queensland rail.
- Timetable data from ROPID / PID open data (CC-BY). Realtime data from the City of Prague Golemio platform. Covers Prague integrated transport rail services.
- Timetable data from Rejseplan (Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S), licensed under Creative Commons CC BY 4.0. Timetable only: no realtime data is published for Denmark yet.
- Data from Auckland Transport (AT Metro) GTFS and GTFS-RT, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY), via dev-portal.at.govt.nz.
- Data from Digitraffic licensed under CC BY 4.0
- Data from SNCF Open Data GTFS and GTFS-RT (ODbL).

- Timetable data from the Luxembourg public transport timetable (GTFS) published by the Administration des transports publics on data.public.lu under Creative Commons CC BY 4.0. Timetable only: no realtime data is published for Luxembourg.
- Timetable data from KTMB (Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad) GTFS, published on Malaysia's official open data portal (data.gov.my) under Creative Commons CC BY 4.0. Timetable only: the published GTFS-RT vehicle-position feed carries no vehicles.
- Timetable data from VIA Rail Canada (GTFS), made available under the Open Government Licence – Canada version 2.0. Timetable only: VIA Rail publishes no realtime feed.
- Amtrak: timetable data used under Amtrak's written permission of 7 January 2026 (FOIA response 26-FOI-00215) - no licence, fee or attribution is required, on the condition that the use benefits Amtrak and drives Amtrak consumer engagement. Timetable only; Amtrak publishes no realtime. MTA Long Island Rail Road: schedule and realtime published as MTA open data under MTA's developer terms, with per-stop trip updates and vehicle positions. MTA Metro-North Railroad: schedule published as MTA open data under MTA's developer terms. Timetable only. MBTA: schedule and realtime used under the MBTA developer licence agreement. Realtime carries vehicle positions and delays but no per-stop times, because it identifies boarding areas rather than stations. SEPTA: Regional Rail schedule and realtime published by SEPTA under SEPTA's developer licence agreement. RTD: schedule and realtime used under RTD's GTFS Realtime License Agreement, which grants non-exclusive, revocable rights to use, reproduce and redistribute the data, keeps title with RTD and may be revoked at any time. Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority: schedules published under CCJPA's Terms of Use, which CCJPA may revoke at any time and which grant no redistribution rights. 511 SF Bay (Metropolitan Transportation Commission): Capitol Corridor realtime trip updates and vehicle positions are data provided by 511.org under the 511 Data Agreement, which requires that credit, is non-transferable and may be terminated on 30 days' notice. Brightline: schedule, trip updates and vehicle positions published openly by Brightline Trains Florida LLC at feed.gobrightline.com, without a licence instrument. The feed carries no feed_info.txt, so no GTFS licence or attribution field, and the host publishes nothing but the three files; the Mobility Database (mdb-1126, official) and Transitland records carry no licence either. Brightline's Website Terms of Use (3 March 2026) reserve all rights in its content and ask that its services not be accessed by automated means without permission, and the feed is produced for Brightline by Distribusion Technologies. The data is therefore used as published and credited to Brightline, with no grant to rely on, and the feed can be withdrawn at any time.

Railway Track Maps
Railway track geometry on the map is derived from OpenStreetMap data, licensed under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL).
